| Shave Bench
I built this little pineywood shave horse (below) for use with the Lee Valley carver's drawknife. Note the -= pristine =- lawn I kept at my old Vista, CA homesite. The grass is "LoCal August Green."

Purpleheart (aka Purkleheartless) Spoke Shave The first assembly of the cut shave. I've just begun work setting the iron. The purpleheart wood has no finish at this stage. Let's see, how do I want this to feel? Let's take some test pulls and see. Yeah, I'd like some more contour to it.

The shave now has some shape to it and a coat of O'Deen's Superblonde shellac. (1999. Man, that old camera wasn't worth a hoot.) ![]() |
Here is the litle piece of lignum vitae I inlaid into the base for a longer life. The Gunterman/Hock iron is visible here, too. The iron at the bottom of the picture is a joint effort with Steve Knight. We made a couple sets of Stanley #45 irons which have gone the route of my infamous BowSaur: TBD. ![]() Below is yet another bad pic of the purkleheartless shave and the little froe I made. A poplar branch from one of my Lombardy Poplars came in handy here. I uses more of the poplar for the legs on the shave bench and was amazed at how sturdy the wood is once dried. Tough schtuff, Maynard! Back to the infamous bowsaur, here is a piece of mahogany which is fresh off the lathe. It'll be spiffed up for use on the bowsaur some day soon^H^H^H^H^H. There is no finish on it yet. Well, there you have it, Yack. Tools to date. Oh, see the carving bench, too. I guess that could be considered a tool. And H E Y ! , don't forget to see my new handy pouches, the ToolyRoo™. |
